MY WRITING JOURNEY
Introduction and beginning I am Olusola Sophia Anyanwu alias Author Sophia. I started writing at 19 with poetry when I faced a crisis in my uni life, in 1979, in Nigeria. The poem was therapeutic. My father, Augustus Adebayo, being a writer inspired my reading and writing interests. I had begun with diary writing. I came to the UK with 7 manuscripts with no thoughts of publishing, till 2017. A Writing Journey to me is any writing one is engaged in throughout one’s life till God tells one to stop. I write planned and unplanned writing. Since 1979 to date, I have been able, by God’s grace, to write 17 books [fiction and poetry]. I constantly encourage myself with the scripture in Luke 1:37 –With God, nothing shall be impossible. As an Ignorant Novice Writer I made many mistakes. I did no research and just plunged into publishing. I assumed that all publishers were traditional publishers and took care of marketing, designing, etc. I published 7 of my manuscripts with AuthorHouse in 2017 and 2018. I also published a book with Austin Macauley in 2019. As an English teacher, I edited my works myself. I saw authors like Francine Rivers or Agatha Christy as “real writers” and not the likes of me. Middle and Turning Point I never considered myself a writer. This changed in August 2020, when I joined ACW. Through attending seminars, workshops, local ACW groups [TRELLIS, Christian Sister’s Network, Shine Christian Writers, Women Writers and Editors, Online Writing Group 1] and engaging actively with lovely ACW members, I shed off all of my ignorance concerning writing and publishing. I started self-publishing, joined social media and saw my writing as a talent from God, to bless readers. Through Bisi Oladipupo, I learnt to download my manuscripts on to Amazon KDP and got my current website. I joined other writing groups outside ACW which also helped me gain more confidence, the zeal to continually improve and gain wider industry knowledge. Groups outside ACW
My Challenges Marketing, formatting, author interviews/ book launches, Newsletters, ICT skills, using audio, putting my books on Ingram sparks, doing efficient blogging, using social media to enhance my writing, using appropriate soft wares to help my writing skills to improve visibility on Amazon markets and outside Amazon. All of these are my goals for 2024, with Luke 1:37 by God’s grace. Milestones Achieved Since 2020 By God’s grace, I thank God for the following:
Goals I plan to publish a book by 2025 and work through my challenges.
